Islamic fashion is growing worldwide, from Malaysia to all the way here in the United States of America. Organisations are now catering more to the stylish Muslimah who seeks modest apparel that makes her look and feel beautiful!

A fashion event at the end of this month will showcase designer products from Paris, USA and even the UK! Fashion Fighting Famine is a non-profit organisation based in Southern California. It was established in 2007, when a group of young Muslim women in Irvine, California thought of an idea to raise money for charity in a unique way – through a Muslimah fashion show.

The event has grown to such an extent that they expect to have up to 1,000 attendees this year. Of those, there will be special guests such as Amenakin from the UK, US-based fashion blogger Winnie Detwa, Imaan Ali from The Hijab Blog, YouTube beauty blogger Nura Afia-Noorzai (aka BabyLailaLov) from Colorado, and yours truly – YazTheSpaz.

You can’t have a fashion show without amazing designers from around the world. Let’s start off with our US-based designers: There is Rayan, known best for their long-sleeved evening wear; Abaya Addict, known for their colourful collection of dresses and stunning palazzo pants; Mohajababes and their beautiful array of kaftans; and SixteenR, who has the most ‘outspoken’ and empowering hijabs I’ve ever seen!

The international designers who will be making an appearance on the runway are Nissa Boutique and Inayah. Both are travelling all the way from London, and carry clothing and evening wear that will make a woman feel her best.

Hijab House is an Australian-based company which is the first of its kind to offer modest apparel with a sophisticated and modern twist.

Finally, there is Madamme BK by Couture Swim N’ Sport, traveling all the way from Paris, France. Brazilian-born designer Vanessa Lourenco created a line especially for the stylish Muslim woman. Asmah Ahmed is the representative of the line here in the USA. I’ve tried one of their swimsuits, and I think they make the most comfortable, complimenting and conservative Muslim swimwear that I’ve ever seen.

This is clearly one event not to miss. If you still need convincing, how about this – Yuna Zarai will be putting on a performance as well!

Yuna is a world-renowned singer who started off her career in Malaysia.  Now based in Los Angeles, she will take centre stage to share her Indo-pop style of music and angelic voice with the Muslim women of the west coast!

Make sure you mark your calendar for March 31st, 2013! The fashion show will take place at the luxurious Hyatt Regency Hotel in Irvine, California. Doors open promptly at 3pm.

If you cannot make it to the event, join the Digital VIP to experience the virtual runway along with us.

Interested in purchasing items from the runway? Fashion Fighting Famine is providing a ‘Shop Our Show Lookbook’ for those who want to pluck items directly from the runway.

I can’t wait to meet you at this event and share my experiences after attending the Fashion Fighting Famine 6th annual charity event!
